BioBasis, the biological monitoring programme within ZERO, is run by the National Environmental Research Institute, Aarhus University and financed by the Danish Energy Agency under the Ministry of Energy and Climate, Denmark.
The goal of BioBasis is to monitor the dynamics of a large variety of organisms and biological processes in the local ecosystem. The programme includes 35 elements of terrestrial plant, arthropod, bird and mammal dynamics in Zackenbergdalen and adjacent valleys besides monitoring of phyto- and zooplankton in two lakes. Emphasis is on populations, phenology, reproduction and predation.
